Co-Investigator, Regolith Studies, Surface-Atmosphere Interaction,
University of Colorado
In 1988, Michael Mellon graduated from Stockton State College with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. He continued his education at the University of Colorado, receiving his Master of Science and PhD in Planetary Science in 1990 and 1994, respectively.
For the Phoenix Mission, Michael Mellon will provide input about the distribution and state of volatiles in the martian subsurface for operational planning and primary mission activities. He will also help analyze the link between the subsurface ice with current and past climate trends on Mars. Mellon will pay particular attention to nature of the regolith at the Phoenix landing site, providing critical analysis, validation, and archiving capabilities.
